About This Committee

The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) allows delegates to dive into major security issues shaping conflict zones today. In committee, delegates will debate how effective current efforts are at preventing the illicit flow of small arms and light weapons, and whether these measures actually help reduce violence or just push the problem elsewhere. This raises questions about whether existing systems can truly create long-term stability. The committee will also explore ways to regulate the growing presence of private military contractors in conflict zones. Delegates will consider how increased oversight and accountability can improve security while also changing how states approach responsibility and international cooperation. This committee will definitely include intense debate, unexpected challenges, and will be an engaging experience throughout.
