TUCMUN I Policies

From the start, TUCMUN aimed to be an educational organization dedicated to nurturing global leaders by strengthening delegates' research, writing, and public speaking skills with intriguing and relevant topics. We acknowledge the subjectivity that can often influence delegate award decisions in the Model UN community, including the potential for chair bias and preconceived judgments. Our goal is to foster an inclusive and welcoming conference environment that emphasizes genuine diplomacy, collaboration, and coalition-building—values that are often overlooked in competitive committee settings.

To accomplish our goal, the TUCMUN team developed specific rubrics to grade delegates as well as their position papers based on their committee. This score-based approach is designed to provide committee chairs with a fair and transparent framework for awards as we promote greater equity and accountability while reducing bias between each committee.

Delegate Performance

Delegates across all four committee sections will be assessed based on both their in-room performance and out-of-committee research using a standardized rubric. They will receive scores across five categories, with the completed rubric returned to them by the chairs at the end of the conference. Throughout the 2 day span of TUCMUN, delegates will be evaluated based on their performance inside the committee as well as the research done prior to it using a standardized rubric created based on the committee. The evaluation criteria, each assigned a specific weight, include:

• In-Room Debate (Moderated and Unmoderated Caucuses)
• Resolutions
• Position Paper
• Diplomacy and Collaboration
Note that the weight of each section will change in between each Assembly.

Position Paper

To be eligible for awards, delegates must submit a position paper by 9 AM on Saturday, April 19, to their google form below. These papers will be graded by the chairs and assigned a score, which will be shared with delegates via email after the conference. Position papers must follow CMS formatting with MLA citations, and plagiarism of any kind is strictly prohibited. Delegates are expected to write their papers independently, and committee chairs may conduct plagiarism checks during grading. If plagiarism is detected, the delegate’s sponsor and the USG of the respective assembly will be notified, and the delegate will be immediately disqualified from receiving any individual committee awards.

Committee Behavior

In order for every delegate to have a pleasant time, TUCMUN has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or discrimination of any kind. Delegates can report incidents directly to their committee chairs or anonymously to their chiars. Anyone found responsible for such behavior may face consequences, including disqualification from awards or removal from the conference.

Preparatory Actions

TUCMUN values a collaborative conference experience where all delegates are given equal opportunities to speak and participate. Thus, prewriting of committee resolutions or directives outside of committee sessions is strictly prohibited. Any delegates found guilty of prewriting may be subject to disqualification from awards. TUCMUN considers all uses of AI to be in the same vein as plagiarism and cheating. All submitted position papers will be checked for AI use by committee chairs when grading. If AI is used, the same disciplinary process for plagiarism will occur.
