Keynote speakers TUCMUN I is honored to have Schuyler VanValkenburg as our keynote speaker! He is a Democratic politician serving as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 72nd District since 2018. He is known for his strong advocacy on issues related to education, public health, and social justice. Before entering politics, VanValkenburg was a high school social studies teacher, a background that still deeply influences his legislative priorities, particularly in advocating for public education reform. As a delegate, he has worked to increase funding for schools, improve teacher salaries, and ensure greater equity in the education system.

VanValkenburg has also been a vocal proponent for healthcare access, pushing for expanded Medicaid and policies aimed at making healthcare more affordable for Virginians. He has supported efforts to improve mental health services, combat the opioid crisis, and reduce healthcare disparities. On social issues, he has advocated for criminal justice reform, including measures to reduce mass incarceration and improve rehabilitation programs.

In addition to his legislative duties, VanValkenburg is known for his deep commitment to his community. He remains active in local education initiatives and works to foster collaboration between government and schools.
